Fall Leaf Program
On Monday, October 17th, the town will start the fall leaf removal program using the leaf vacuum. Leaves should be raked to the curb BUT must be kept clear of storm drains. Residents may continue to place leaves in trash bags and put out for Monday pick up. Bags containing garbage and leaves together will not be picked up.

KEEP OUR WATERWAYS CLEAN
Keep our Waterways Clean The Town of Edinburgh has implemented a Storm Water Program as a requirement of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Storm Water Phase II Program. The Town has been issued an NPDES permit by the state for this program. The ultimate goal of the Storm Water Program is to prevent pollution of our lakes, streams, waterways, and groundwater. Storm water runoff occurs when precipitation flows over the ground to a storm system, lake, stream, river or dry well. Impervious surfaces such as driveways, parking lots, and buildings prevent storm water from naturally soaking into the ground. Foreign substances, such as debris and chemicals that are deposited on impervious surfaces are transported with storm water runoff into streams, rivers, and other water bodies, causing pollution. Storm water in Edinburgh flows to the Big Blue River and to dry wells (or groundwater). Because storm sewers are connected directly to the river or to the groundwater, it is important that only clean water is entering the storm sewer system or dry wells. Once pollution reaches water bodies, it can poison fish, damage ecosystems, and even end up in water used for drinking or recreation. Protecting our water bodies from all sources of contamination can be accomplished through the cooperation of citizens, government, and businesses. DO YOUR PART TO KEEP OUR WATERWAYS CLEAN! Clean up after your pet and dispose of pet waste in a trash container or toilet. When left outdoors, pet waste contributes bacteria and nutrients to storm water. Use a commercial car wash or wash your car on an unpaved surface to reduce the amount of dirty, soapy water entering storm drains and waterways. Piles of soil and mulch to be used for landscaping projects should be covered to prevent erosion. If you have a septic system, have it serviced regularly. Make sure it is not connected to the storm sewer or polluting a creek or body of water. Clean up your property. Properly dispose of outdated or unused household chemicals stored in your basement, garage, or barn and do not store these materials outdoors. Recycle used oil, automotive fluids, batteries, and other products. Don't dispose of hazardous products in storm drains, alleys, or the ground. This pollutes the water supply. Sweep up debris, rather than hosing down areas. Storm Water Hotline To report the illegal dumping of chemicals, heavy erosion from constructions sites, heavily polluted water, or other illegal connections to the storm system (such as septic tank discharges or washing machine wash water), please call the Storm Water Hotline. The Public Works Office will accept storm water hotline calls at phone number 526-3512 between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Callers are required to give their name and contact information so that storm water problems can be tracked as they are resolved. A Storm Water Hotline form can be faxed to 526-3542. To print a copy of the form click here. Complaint Form Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Oil based paint, stains, varnishes, paint thinner, lawn care chemicals, and pesticides are all hazardous household chemicals that should NOT be thrown in the trash. To dispose of these chemicals properly, call the Johnson County Solid Waste Management District at 317-738-2546 with the list of the chemicals you wish to dispose of. The District will then mail you a voucher that enables you to take your chemicals to the Tox-Drop location on the southside of Marion County. There is no charge for this service, but you must have a voucher to use the service. For other recycling and disposal opportunities, please visit the Johnson County Solid Waste Management District website. http://recyclejohnsoncounty.com/ Bartholomew County residents can take their Household Hazardous Wastes to the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center at 720 S. Mapleton on Tox-Away-Wednesdays. Hours of operation are Wednesdays only, from 7:30am-12:30pm. Water Main Flushing
WATER MAIN FLUSHING The Edinburgh Municipal Utilities will be flushing water mains beginning August 29 at 7:30 AM and continue through September 11, 2011. Customers may experience some discoloration in their water during this operation. If this occurs at your residence or business we suggest that you run a slow stream of cold water until the discoloration disappears. Usually five to ten minutes will take care of the problem. If the discoloration persists please contact the Utility Office at 526-3514 or 526-3515. We strongly suggest that white clothing not be washed during the daytime hours to help reduce the risk of staining. Some other light colors could also be affected. To be safe these colors should be washed after the hour of 5:00 PM until after the flushing program is completed.

In the Spotlight
Rumpke Trash Service
Rumpke is working with the Town of Edinburgh to improve trash and recycling service. Rumpke will service the Edinburgh community with new trucks that use an automated arm to collect garbage at the curb. While the use of this truck will allow for a cleaner and more efficient service, the primary benefit is a safer environment for our employees. By keeping our drivers inside the truck, we avoid injuries associated with heavy lifting and more importantly, passing motorists. You can help us by following the few simple steps outlined below. · Face the waste wheeler toward the street (wheels away from street). · Position the waste wheeler within two feet of the curb. · Avoid placing the waste wheeler near parked cars, mailboxes or other objects. · If you have more trash than the waste wheeler can hold, please make sure it is bagged and placed on top. Please begin following these guidelines on your next collection day. Thank you for your cooperation as we roll out this new service. If you have any questions, please contact Rumpke Customer Service at (800) 678-6753 or southern.market@rumpke.com.
