Valley Houston Hancock Sr., 72, of Edinburgh, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Mr. Hancock was a self-employed surplus trader. He was a member of Bethel Holiness Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Whosoever Will Community Church, 623 S. Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh, with the Rev. Lewis Burton and the Rev. Nathan Shockley officiating. Calling will be at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Arrangements were made by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh. Born in Columbia, Ky., March 26, 1941, Mr. Hancock was the son of James Hancock and Mabel Burton Hancock. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Cochran Hancock; a son, Valley Houston "Bub" Hancock Jr. of Columbus; daughters, Janice (Stanley) Curry of Edinburgh, Marla Giles of Indianapolis and Tamera (Ron) Mayes of Southport; brothers, James "Snooter" (Juanita) Hancock, Gene (Tammy) Hancock, Joe Hancock and Steve Hancock, all of Edinburgh; a sister, Karen (David) Harmon of Edinburgh; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Hancock; a brother, Jackie "Jack" Hancock; and sisters, Judy Hancock, Margie Allender and Donna Dinn.
