Velma Burton, 86, of Edinburgh, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her daughter's residence in Edinburgh. Mrs. Burton  was a member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and Nineveh Senior Citizens. She enjoyed quilting, outside activities and singing with her brother. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., Edinburgh, with the Rev. Guy Hardin officiating. Calling will be at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Americare Health Services, 1150 N. Main St., Franklin, IN 46131. Funeral arrangements were made by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh. Born in Adair County, Ky., Aug. 26, 1927, Mrs. Burton was the daughter of Odis Cowan and Ollie M. Corbin Cowan. She married Malcom Burton Sept. 18, 1944. He preceded her in death March 21, 2003. Mrs. Burton is survived by sons, Gerald Burton of Franklin and Darrell (Norma) Burton and Malcom "Shorty" (Vicki) Burton, both of Edinburgh; daughters, Linda K. (Ronnie) Estes of Edinburgh and Jeanette (Wallace) Adams of Trafalgar; brothers, Fayette "Dick" Cowan and Clifford (Diana) Cowan, both of Edinburgh; a sister, Delia Kirkland of Clemson, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, James, Donald and Howard Cowan.
