Alvin J. Pearson

COLUMBUSAlvin J. Pearson, 76, of Columbus, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2020 at his home.Alvin was born July 16, 1944, in Bigstone, Virginia, the son of Alvin N. and Vernia V. Delph Pearson. On July 15, 1963, he married Vena Ayers.Mr. Pearson worked at David R. Webb Company for over 30 years before retiring. He was a longtime member of Lowell General Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and working on lawn mowers and cars in his spare time. He was nicknamed “One-eyed Joe”. Alvin enjoyed tinkering and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Country music and bluegrass music were among his favorites to listen to.Survivors include his daughters, Patricia A. (Marshall) McElroy of Hope, Vickie J. (Davy) Light of Florida, Christopher J. (Lindy) Pearson of Brown County; grandchildren, Natasha (Steve) Pardue, Matthew (Tiffany) Light, Zachary (Maddison) McElroy, Andrew (Tori) Light, Makayla Olds, Logan Pearson, Kyle Wilkins, Nicholas Light, Austin Pardue, Joey Pearson, Hunter Light, Jayden Pearson; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Virgil Ray Pearson of Dryden, Virginia; sister, Margaret Sue (Jim) Delph of Jonesville, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vena; son, Ricky Joe Pearson; sister, Nettie Lou Wade; brothers, James Woodrow Pearson and Charlie Pearson.The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Don Hacker officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.We do ask that visitors follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
