Raymond Alfred Betz

Raymond Alfred Betz, 79, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 4:07 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Columbus Regional Hospital.Mr. Betz was born September 3, 1941, in the Camp Atterbury area, the loving son of Fred and Nancy Morrison Betz. On August 8, 1965, Raymond married Barbara A. Adams; she survives.Mr. Betz taught at Hauser High School and Columbus High School and worked at Cummins Engine Company for 15 years. He was the Director of Purchasing at Seymour Manufacturing retiring in 2007 after 18 years of service.Mr. Betz was a member of Westside Community Church and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon. He was a former member of the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department and a founding and long-standing member of the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department. He worked on various projects with the Bartholomew County Historical Society, such as, Spring on the Farm and the Reeves Children’s Car. He helped coach youth sports and he was a member of the 1959 undefeated Columbus High School football team. He enjoyed woodworking and traveling.Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Barbara; children, Angela Betz of Columbus, Anastasia (Johan) Nystedt of Hinsdale, Illinois and Adam (Callie) Betz of Stamford, Connecticut; grandchildren, Christine, Anthony, Ian, Elliot, Sydney, Penelope and Lilly; a great-grandson, Dax; sisters, Marjorie Betz of Columbus and Emma Sublette of Southport, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Betz was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nancy Betz; an infant brother, Leland Betz; and sisters, Norma Horn and LaVonne Zimmerman.The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike; Pastor Dennis W. Aud will officiate.Family and friends may gather for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Due to pandemic restrictions, we are limited to 50 people in our funeral home. We do ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines and masks are required once inside the funeral home.A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.Mr. Betz will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
