Peggy L. Albertson

Peggy L. Albertson, 83, of Bloomington passed away October 15, 2021.Born, November 3, 1932 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of Ralph Day and Florence Mildred (Deich) Day Ahern.Peggy attended Indianapolis schools #84, #45, and #70 and Memorial Ave. Elementary and Springfield Jr. High schools in West Springfield, MA. She also attended Greenway Elementary in Bisbee, AZ; Wareham High School in Wareham, MA; Tombstone Union High School in Tombstone, AZ; and graduated from Bisbee High School in 1949.She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1953, a Bachelor of Music degree in 1955, and a Master of Music degree in 1976 from Butler University, followed by graduate classes in music at Indiana University. From 2009 to 2014, she studied Koine Greek at Christian Theological Seminary and two semesters of Hebrew from 2014 to 2015.Peggy married Jack D. Albertson on June 12, 1954. He was the pastor of First Christian Church in Alexandria, IN; from 1955-1959. Jack was recalled by the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer. They lived in Empire, CO; Muncie, IN; Chambley, France; Alamogordo, NM; Panama City, FL; Hampton, VA; San Bernardino, CA; Indianapolis, IN (Butler U. AFROTC) and Bloomington, IN (I.U. AFROTC). Jack retired in 1979.Peg gave private woodwind lessons to High School band members at Elwood, IN and Alexandria, IN. She taught Public School Music, instrumental and vocal, grades 1-12 at the former Center School in Delaware County, IN and maintained a music studio in her home in Bloomington, teaching piano, organ and most band instruments.She played organ at various churches from time to time. Peg played clarinet, alto clarinet, flute and alto flute in various groups at Butler U. She played recorder with the Peninsula Recorder Society with concerts at Bruton Parish in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. For several years, she played oboe with the Bloomington (IN) Symphony Orchestra; E-flat Alto horn with Bloomington (IN) Brass Band; B-flat Baritone in the Bloomington Community Band and Marimba in a folk group at St. Charles Parish. She sang with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir – the highlight being performances at Kennedy Center, DC and Carnegie Hall, NYC with the ISO and the Berlioz Requiem.Peg was of the Vineyard Community Church in Bloomington and an Oblate of St. Benedict at Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove, IN. She belonged to Mu Phi Epsilon, Friday Musicale, Bloomington Piano Teachers Assn., International Double Reed Society, Indianapolis Flute Club, University Club of Indiana University and the American Guild of Organists.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister-in-law, Charlene Albertson.Survivors include her sister, Jean Canzona of Kettle Falls, WA, her brother-in-law, Dale Albertson of New Palestine, IN and several nieces and nephews, along with many cousins and friends.Visitation will be on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from Noon until service time at The Funeral Chapel.Services will be 1 pm Thursday, October 28, 2021 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third Street, Bloomington, IN. Burial at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh, IN.
