James L. Haislup

James “Jim” L. Haislup 87, of Hope, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Community Hospital South.  Born on September 8, 1934 in Columbus, Jim was the son of Rev. J. Floyd and Wanda I. Dobbs Haislup. He married Nelda Stainbrook on December 30, 1955.  Jim had been a firefighter for Columbus Fire Department. He was an inspector during his last 9 years of service. Jim was also owner of J.H. Aluminum.  He served in the United States Army.  He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church.  Jim was also a member of Hope Masonic Lodge and Hartsville Chapter of Eastern Star. He was the chairman of Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund for several years.  Jim enjoyed gardening and was a fan of IU basketball, Colts football, Cincinnati Reds, and NASCAR.  Survivors include his wife, Nelda of Hope; children, Cheryl (Dennis) Mize of Hope and Teresa (Gary) Henderson of Hope; grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Mize of Columbus, Lauren (Chris Hawley) Wilson of Columbus, Bret (Danielle) Mize of Hope, and Bryce (Bethany) Mize of Hope; great-grandchildren, Riley Wilson, Zoey Mize, Emery Mize, Camden Mize, Ethan Mize, Gibson Mize, and Rowan Mize; step-great-grandchildren, Hailey Shaw, Leylani Hawley, and Christopher Hawley; sister, Lois (Jerry) McCreary of Tennessee; brother-in-law, Randy (Jaime) Stainbrook of Hope; and several nieces and nephews.   Jim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Haislup; daughter, Cynthia Haislup; and sister, Shirley Duncan.   A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Tim Dillingham officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hope United Methodist Church at 432 Washington St. or to the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund at 1101 Jackson Street Columbus, IN.
