MAY 21, 2022 STORM DAMAGE

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on May 21, 2022, an EFO Tornado hit Edinburgh, IN. Widespread straight-line winds of 80 -90 mph created significant uprooted and broken trees within a wide area as well along the damage path. All departments of Edinburgh were dispatched to clean off limbs on power lines and get streets open. The water plant and sewer plant were both without electricity for several hours, however generated power kept them in operation. Most of the Town was without electricity. Approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday most of the west side had power back on. Approximately 3:00 a.m. on Sunday most power on the east side was back on. Edinburgh employees and subcontractors worked 16 hour shifts through Sunday to get everything back to normal. SR 252 was closed for several hours on Saturday due to very large trees down on primary electric lines. By 7:30 p.m. SR 252 was open. The Aquatic Center also had airborne umbrellas and fencing torn up. The Aquatic Center is still planned to be open this weekend. The Cemetery also had several limbs down. Today we have 2 street department crews picking up limbs along the streets. This will continue several days until everything is cleaned up. The trash compactor at the Waste Water Plant will be open every day this week for residents disposal uses.

There were no serious injuries or deaths due to the storm.

I am very pleased with the performance and the dedication from all of our employees that came in over the weekend and worked long hard hours to get the Town electricity on and streets open.
