Paul E. Ford, 98, of Hanover, Indiana, passed away from this life at 3:27 a.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover. Paul was born in Franklin, Indiana, September 17, 1924, the son of the late Charles and Chloe Allendar Ford. On September 11, 1943, Paul married Betty Jean King; she preceded him in death July 16, 1983. Paul later married Carolyn P. Pope Chatlos March 23, 1984; she died July 17, 2001. Early in life Paul was employed by Hamilton-Cosco and Dunlap in Columbus. He then became an entrepreneur owning and operating the Hilltop Motel in Edinburgh, Jefferson Lounge in Martinsville, the President of Madison Motel in Madison, and then, The Shady Oaks Apartments in Winter Haven, Florida. Paul had a passion for having garage sales, going to the horse races and shooting pool. Survivors include his children, James P. (Lygia) Ford of Elizabethtown and Phyllis E. (Larry) Grindstaff of Madison; grandchildren, Dawn Ford, Kevin Ford, Allen Ford, Rhonda Grindstaff, Kerry Compton, Lisa Aldridge, Nicholas Ford, Jennifer Ford; and Jimmy Ford; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Anita) Ford of Edinburgh; a sister, Betty Sears of Edinburgh; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Chloe Ford; both wives, Betty and Carolyn; sons, Donald E. Ford and Michael R. Ford; brothers, Richard Ford, Chester, Wayne, and Carl Ford; and sisters, Mabel Davis, Charlene Harcort, Irene Williams, Geneva Gayman, Virginia Bailey and Rosemary Williamson. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Virgil Clotfelter will officiate. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Paul will be laid to rest at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or the donor’s choice of charities.
