David Hadley Badger-F-111-4
David E. Hadley, 66, of New Castle, passed away on the afternoon of Friday, August 28, 2026, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief battle with an aggressive cancer.
He was born on August 13, 1960, in Shelbyville, Indiana, a son of the late Elvin and Marie (Caldwell) Hadley. David grew up in the Edinburgh area and, following high school, enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was an exceptionally hard worker who gave his very best to every task placed before him. For many years, he worked for Sproles Corp. Church Builders and, in recent years, frequently assisted John and Tom Sproles, Sr. and John and Tom Nipp with various projects. Those who knew David’s work ethic often said he “worked like a machine.” He was dependable, capable, and never afraid of a long or difficult day’s work. With his friendly, outgoing personality, David never knew a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved music, especially Rod Stewart, and treasured the special memories made while attending Rod’s concerts with his daughter. David was also an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed cheering for the Indianapolis Colts and IU basketball. As much as David enjoyed music, sports, and working with his hands, nothing brought him greater happiness than his family. His most treasured role was being a grandpa, and the time he spent with his grandchildren was among the greatest joys of his life. Those left to cherish David’s memory include his children, Jamie (Dustin) Hadley-Cowan of Edinburgh, David (Samantha) Hadley of Columbus, Hayleigh Hadley (Andrew) of Cambridge City, and Kurtis Turner of North Vernon; his 10 beloved grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Robert “Offie” Hadley, Morris Dale “Pick” Hadley, Richard Hadley, Wanda Bryant, and Shirley McGaha; and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his companion, Lorrie Whitehurst, on March 31, 2024; and a brother, Donnie Hadley, in August 2026.Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home.
