Carolyn Sue Westmeyer Badger-A-1-4

Carolyn Sue Westmeyer, 77, of Columbus, passed from this life at Columbus Regional Hospital with her children by her side, entering her eternal resting place in Heaven, on December 31, 2019. Carolyn was born September 21, 1942, in Washington, Indiana, the daughter of Milfred John and Virginia Lou Wallace Freyberger. She graduated from Washington High School in 1960, and attended Lockyear Business School in Evansville, graduating in 1962. Carolyn then moved to Columbus and married Larry Westmeyer in June of 1963. Together they had two children, Tracey (Brent) Clifford and Steve (Shana Baxter) Westmeyer, both of Columbus. Carolyn’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson. She also loved flowers and was a Master Gardener. Before her health declined, she was known for her beautiful flower gardens. Carolyn was also an animal lover, except birds, and always had a dog (usually a rescued basset hound). She spoiled every pet she met with treats that she kept in her car. Carolyn loved people and had an infectious laugh. She was kind-hearted, generous and fiercely loyal to those close to her. Carolyn began working for the government, facilitating low interest loans to farmers. She then worked at Arvin Industries before retiring after 30 years of service. Carolyn also was a paper carrier for The Republic and after retirement she worked part-time at the “Tools and More” store at the Edinburgh Outlet Mall. She was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her favorite Bible verse was “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Interment will be at Rest HavenCemetery.Memorials may be made to Bartholomew County Humane Society in honor of Carolyn. Besides her children, Carolyn is survived by her grandchildren, Katlyn Westmeyer of Denver, Colorado, and Trent Westmeyer, Paige DeNeve and Keeley Baxter, all of Columbus; a great-grandson, Aden Westmeyer of Columbus; her beloved aunt, Joyce Petty; and all of her cousins.
