The dispatchers use Alert levels when dispatching severe weather calls. What do the Alert levels mean?
We use Alert levels to reduce the amount of radio traffic the dispatcher must use.

Level 5 Weather Alert = Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Edinburgh area
Level 4 Weather Alert = Tornado Watch for the Edinburgh area
Level 3 Weather Alert = Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning is possible for a surrounding county.
Level 2 Weather Alert = Severe Thunderstorm Warning For Edinburgh
Level 1 Weather Alert = Tornado Warning For Edinburgh
Why do the Severe Weather Sirens sound every Friday morning at 11am?
The Severe Weather Sirens are tested weekly on Friday at 11am. If severe weather is a threat for that time, the test will be postponed.

What is the Knox Box program?
Fire departments use the Knox Box system to save lives and prevent costly forced entry damage. Knox key boxes provide the fire department immediate building entry day or night. As the property owner, you purchase a Knox-box and install it according to fire department guidelines. Firefighters use a unique high security master Key to open the boxes.
Does the Fire Department participate in the Knox Box rapid entry system?
Yes, we have participated in the Knox Box rapid entry system since 2003.

How can I become a member of the Fire Department?
You must be 18 years of age, live within the Town limits of Edinburgh, and have a valid Indiana driver license. After the application is turned in, the hiring process begins. Included are interviews, background checks and basic health screenings. If all processes are passed, you become a member and basic firefighter training begins.
