Cleveland Williams, Jr., “Koondog”, 74 of Columbus, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 7, 2019 at his home. Cleveland was born January 18, 1945, in Edinburgh, Indiana, the son of Cleveland and Dorothy Thurman Williams, Sr. On August 26, 1988, he married Phyllis M. Long.
Mr. Williams worked at Stadler Packaging Company for over 20 years and retired from Arvin Industry after serving over 30 years there. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Even though he was a hard worker, he still made time for his family. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Jeffrey A. Williams, of Columbus, Earla Chorley of Nineveh, Cleveland Bryant of California, Jonathan E. Williams of Columbus, Venice Williams of New York; brothers, Paul (Carolyn) Williams of Edinburgh, Dorcie “Eddie” Williams of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Koondog was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earnest Beatty, Phillip “Tony” Williams and sister, Anna Jane Brantley. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Bishop Charles A. Sims officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be Rest Haven Cemetery.
