Agnes M. "Granny" Burton, 85, of Edinburgh, died at 9:17 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Adair County, Ky., March 24, 1927, the daughter of Miller and Ogin Cowan Stapleton. She married John Henry Burton on December 19, 1941 at New Hope Brethren in Christ Church in Adair County, Ky. He survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Bill Boy (Karen) Burton of Edinburgh and Eddie Dale (Susie) Burton of Edinburgh; a daughter, Judy Gail Lowman of Edinburgh; a daughter-in-law, Mary Burton of Columbus; a brother, E.C. Stapleton of Louisville, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David E. Burton; a daughter, Hattie R. Burton; brothers, Sam, Manuel and Andrew Stapleton and Ed Cowan; sisters, Virginia Burton and Dillrie Wheat; half-sisters, Ollie and Ruth Stapleton; and a grandchild. She was a 56 year member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and former Sunday school teacher. She retired in 1990 from Alma Plastics in Edinburgh as an inspector and painter. She enjoyed her family, gardening, sewing and flowers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 1010 S. Main St., Edinburgh, with the Rev. Guy Hardin officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements were made by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
