Virginia Abbett, 88, of Columbus, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mrs. Abbett was born in Bartholomew County February 17, 1922, the daughter of Mallie and Nola Malson) Taulman. On April, 1942, she married Oren Abbet, who preceded her in death November 2, 1979. Mrs. Abbett was a homemaker. She enjoyed flowers, quilting, and working crossword puzzles. She was an avid Purdue fan. She graduated from Edinburgh High School and a member of the Edinburgh United Methodist Church. Mrs. Abbett is survived by her sons, James Robert (Barbara) Abbett of Columbus and Oren K. Abbett of North Vernon; daughters, Beverly Ann Abbett, Marsha Kay (Jack) Gray, and Roberta Sue Capps all of Columbus; a sister, Norma Skobel of Fort Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, and five greatgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Kathryn Taulman and Florence Bruce; and a grandson, Kevin Allen Gray. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, with the Rev. Doran Chambers officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
