Donald Ray Barker Sr., 76, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his residence in Edinburgh. He was born April 8, 1934, to Arthur L. and Ollie May (Burton) Barker in Adair County, Ky. He married Ruby J. (Feese) Barker on July 19, 1958; she survives. Other survivors include a son, Donald Barker Jr. of Edinburgh; four daughters, Shirley (Allan) Denton of Franklin, Marilyn Barker of Greenwood, Lana (David) Brown of Nineveh and Talisa (James) Myers of Columbus; a stepson, Steve Smith of Indianapolis; four brothers, Orlie Barker of Pensacola, Fla., Calvin and Johnnie Barker, both of Edinburgh, and Marvin Barker of McEwen, Tenn.; a sister, Sally Barker of McMinnville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his parents; two brothers, Arlon and Verlon Barker; four sisters, Delcie Branigin, Verda Lovette, Velma Keller and Kathy King; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Perry. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle Church. He retired in 1999 after 40 years of service from Golden Casting in Columbus, where he was a towmotor driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family and sitting on the patio watching birds. The Rev. Mark Myers will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Edinburgh Apostolic Tabernacle Church, 701 S. Main St., Edinburgh. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. He will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, where the U.S. Air Force honor guard will conduct military graveside rites. Arrangements were entrusted to Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
