Leroy Joseph Dinn, 83, of Letts, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010, at his home. He was born January 24, 1927, in Bartholomew County, the son of Martin J. and Clora Ann (Muldoon) Dinn. Mr. Dinn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and afterward took various firefighting courses through Purdue University, earning numerous Certificates of Achievement. He was a firefighter then became fire chief of Greensburg Fire Department, retiring in 1971 after 20 years of service. He was member of Letts United Methodist Church and the VFW, a past member of the American Legion, served as a Cub Scout Master and was active with 4-H. He enjoyed collecting old dishes, pitchers and glass shoes. He married Louise Green February 5, 1975, in Parker City, IN. She survives. Also surviving are four sons, Michael J. (Judy) Dinn of San Tan Valley, AZ., Stephen O. (Lavonda) Dinn and Jeffery W. (Mary Kay) Dinn, both of Greensburg, and Keith E. (Julie) Dinn of Peru, IN; two stepdaughters, Patricia Gayle (Ronnie) West of Muncie and Bonnie (Danny) Walker of Salt Lick, KY.; two stepsons, Bruce D. (Debbie) Norris and Warren C. Norris, both of Losantsville, IN; one sister, Roseell Huntsman of Edinburgh; 19 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Oris, Tillis, Vernon and Raymond Dinn; four sisters, Tressie Ford, Susie Nading, Goldie Scheible and Nina Venters; and three grandchildren, Michael (Dinn) McVicar, Jama Walker and Lori Walker. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg with the Rev. Barbara Hedricks officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh with military graveside rites performed by the VFW, American Legion and U.S. Navy personnel.
