Eugene “Gene” Napier, 75, passed away on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at his residence in Edinburgh. He was born on April 4, 1935, in Lesley County, Kentucky to Lige and Paralee (Taylor) Napier. He married Martha (Brock) Napier in June, 1963. She lovingly survives in Edinburgh. Other survivors include children, Marcia and (Randy) Schaefer, Clifford and (Susan)Napier, Darrell Napier, Charles Napier, Jerry Webster; Glenda and (Rick) Flener; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Napier and Charlie Napier and three sisters, Catherine Baker, Shirley Russell and Zuba Brock. He was preceded in passing by his parents and four brothers, Fred Napier, Lige Napier, Jr., Felix “Bob” Napier and Vincent Napier and two sisters, Bessie Collier and Clamey Jane Napier. Gene attended school in Blue Diamond, Ky. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was employed by Max Hass as an equipment operator. Later his company, E & M General Contractors did contracting for Indiana Bell and AT&T. He then worked for International Union of Operating Engineers and was owner/operator for Temple Trucking. He later retired from Arvin Meritor in Columbus after several years of service. Gene was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 233, Fraternal Order of Eagles, The Forty & Eight, and the National Post Chef de Gare Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating in the Bahamas. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh with military rites being conducted by the American Legion Post No. 233. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Eugene to the Roudebush VA Medical Center for the pulmonary department, 1481 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
