Ralph H. Shaw, 84, of Jewell Street, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2010, at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Shaw was born in Louisville, Ky. on March 13, 1925, the son of the late David Karon and Henrietta Louella Scott Shaw. He married Betty L. De-Spain Burns in Taylorsville on December 08, 1972 and she survives. Mr. Shaw was a World War II United States Navy Veteran where he served for three years. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1989 where he had worked in the factory for 26 years. Mr. Shaw was a member of the Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon and he attended the Dove Ministries Church in Columbus. He enjoyed country music and playing the guitar. The funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Shaw will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Mike Newlin and Pastor Tim Streeval officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until time of service on Tuesday. In keeping with Mr. Shaw’s wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service at The Columbus Crematory on Pearl Street. Interment of the urn will be at a later date in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or to the American Heart Association. Along with his wife, Betty, of 37 years, Mr. Shaw is also survived by two daughters, Barbara (Alex) Estave of New Orleans, La. and Judy (Carl) Hall of Lawrence, Kan.; two sons, Mike Shaw of New Orleans, La. and Ralph H. (Sophia) Shaw, Jr. of Goshen; two step-sons, Marcus Yano of Indianapolis and Donald (Sharon) Burns of Columbus.; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren.
