Irene Sierp, 86, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at her residence in Edinburgh. She was born May 14, 1923, in Sumner County, Tenn., to the late Clint and Sally Lee (Corum) Parker. She married Charles Sierp on Feb. 12, 1952. He preceded her in death Feb. 5, 2002. Survivors include her son, Ray Walton (Janice Barker) of Edinburgh; three daughters, Pam Sierp-Abner (Annette) of Newburgh and Glenda Turner and Betty Foriest, both of Edinburgh; three sisters, Lorene Gregory of Columbus, Sadie (W.B.) Law of Kentucky and Jo Ann Nickens of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Maynor; a grandson, Joe Walton; two great-grandchildren Makaila and Timothy Sierp; and three brothers, Darnell, Fred and Harry Parker. She was a former member of the zoning board in Edinburgh. She retired from Cummins. She also worked for Johnson County Senior Center for 30 years. She was the first Edinburgh Senior Citizen of the Year in 2007 and received the Elderly Hoosier of the Year award in 2006. The Rev. Chuck Vandermark will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
