Kenneth E. “Kenny” Sprong, 78, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, July 30, 2010, at his home. Born Sept. 12, 1931, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Addison and Hazel (Murphy) Sprong. He married Yvonne Helms on Aug. 2, 2009, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Teresa Heffner of Shelbyville; stepsons, Mark Alldredge of Nashville, Chris (wife, Jamie) Alldredge of Columbus, Tim (wife, Nannie) Alldredge of Fort Hood, Texas; stepdaughters, Margo (husband, Bryan) Hash and Tammy Tillman, both of Nashville; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol Sprong; several brothers; and one sister. Mr. Sprong moved to Morgantown two years ago from Shelbyville. He had been a factory worker at Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis for 25 years and a deputy sheriff for Shelby County for three years, retiring in 1961. Mr. Sprong was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1950. Mr. Sprong was a member of First Christian Church in Columbus. He loved woodworking and making furniture; enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts on television and spending time with his grandson, Devon; and was very proud of his military service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, with military rites conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospital Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
