Althene Turner, 81, of Indianapolis, formerly of Edinburgh, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Flat Rock, the daughter of the late Freeman and Luvada (Burdine) Phelps. She married Beryl Turner on Feb. 14, 1948; he preceded her in death Nov. 7, 2002. Survivors include three sons, James Lee (Donna) Turner of Mount Auburn, Gerald Wayne (Kathy) Turner of Whiteland and Michael Glenn "Buddy" Turner of Edinburgh; six daughters, Joyce Ann Turner, Mary A. (Steve) Gaskins and Rebecca Sue Brown, all of Indianapolis, Marsha Kay (Gary) Goforth of Edinburgh, Marilyn Jane (Tim) Parks of Marion and Teresa Marlene Hart of Franklin; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Murriel (Gwendola) Phelps of North Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight brothers and two sisters. A member of Franklin Pilgrim Holiness Church, she was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She was a constant personal testimony to her faith. She was a homemaker and avid reader and enjoyed quilting. The Rev. Tim Parks will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Pilgrim Holiness Church, 1000 E. Hospital Road, Franklin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh, and from 11:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. She will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh.
