Thomas Mathis B-A-22-10-8

Tom was born Sept. 23, 1966, to Thomas B. and Delores J. "Dee" Newland Mathis. He grew up in Ogilville. Survivors include his father, Thomas B. Mathis; his mother, Delores J. "Dee" Kuhn; a brother, Greg Mathis (Heather); a sister, Sheryl Moore; and his grandmother, Betty Newland. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. He was surrounded by family and friends. The funeral will be conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating. Calling will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Monday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Lungevity Foundation which provides funding for lung cancer research and treatment. Tom attended Mount Healthy and Southside schools and graduated from Columbus North High School and Vincennes University. Tom had a son, Jacob E. Mathis, of whom he was very proud. He married Tracey L. Westmeyer August 27, 2005, and accepted her daughter, Paige DeNeve, as his own. He loved spending time with his family and friends - many that he had had since childhood. Tom was a well respected business owner. He started his own companies and made them successful through hard work, determination and great integrity. He was a member of St Peter's Lutheran Church and was a passionate Christian. Tom was also a gifted songwriter, using his faith and life experiences as inspiration. He loved travelling, camping and spending time outdoors. Tom was very athletic, excelling in baseball, track and weight lifting. With family and his closest friends at his side, Tom quietly left us and went to heaven December 22, 2009.
