Freeda L. Gardner, 89, of Columbus, formerly of Edinburgh, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Mrs. Gardner was a homemaker and a member of Edinburgh United Methodist Church, Edinburgh Red Hat Society and the D.A.R. in Franklin. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Edinburgh United Methodist Church, 107 W. Campbell St., with the Rev. Kevin Reed officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Born in Peoga, IN, Aug. 27, 1922, Mrs. Gardner was the daughter of Edmond and Zelma Wells Stanford. She married Harold W. Gardner Dec. 21, 1940. He preceded her in death Feb. 20, 2001. Survivors include a son-in-law, Bailey Smith II of Columbus; a grandson, Brian (Dorinda) Smith of Fishers; a granddaughter, Renae (Chad) Cockerham of Columbus; a sister, Audrey (Ermal) Blackwell of Franklin; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela F. Smith; and sisters, Catheran Tuley and Mae Smith.
