George Burgett Hunt, 100, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Johnson Memorial HosÂpital in Franklin. He was a resÂident of FrankÂlin and a former resident of the Clyde Hill area of Bellevue, Wash. He was born March 20, 1911, in Nineveh Township, Johnson County, the son of Homer and Oma Burgett Hunt. He married Annabelle Stevens of Columbus on Nov. 2, 1932, in New York; she preceded him in passing Feb. 2, 1986, in Bellevue. He married Betty Joann (Gathmann-Roney) Hunt on July 29, 1990, in Kirkland, Wash.; she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Barbara Ann Hunt of Washington; two stepsons, Norman E. Roney of Washington and Dan Lee Roney of South Dakota; and a stepdaughter, Pamela (Trent) Roney-Cherin of Florida. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Stevens Hunt; and three sisters, Ellamae Waltz, Mary Martin and Clara Elizabeth Warner. He attended Nineveh schools and graduated from Nineveh High School in 1929. He worked for World Bestist Co. in New Jersey. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Ridgewood (N.J.) Fire DepartÂment. He worked for Citizens Gas and Coke Utility of Indianapolis and retired from Sears in Seattle in March 1976 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945 with the Seabees, Company D, 94th Battalion, in England and Ireland. George was the oldest living World War II veteran at the Indiana Masonic Home. He entered Calvin W. Prather Lodge 717, F&AM, in Indianapolis on Jan. 17, 1941. He was a life member of LakeÂside Lodge 258, F&AM, of Bellevue, Wash.; a member of Nile Temple in Seattle, where he was a past captain of the mini-bike unit; a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason for more than 70 years; a member of the High Twelve Club 545; a member of the Sojourners 541 of the Indiana Masonic Home; and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a life member of the IssaÂquah (Wash.) Gun Club, a charter member of the Northwest Cortez Motor Home Club, and a member of the American Rifleman Association, Seattle Sears retiree group, Mustangs Northwest Auto Club of Seattle, Edinburgh Lions Club and Edinburgh American Legion Post 233. He also was a sports fisherman and elk hunter. The biggest wish of his life was to have a small farm and a workshop to tinker in, and he and his present wife got that wish when they moved back to Indiana and enjoyed 13 years living on their small farm. The Rev. Charles Stanley will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time WednesÂday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted by Devol Lodge before the funeral service. Interment with military rites will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O.
