Don Carlos Nay, 92, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at ColÂumbus RegionÂal Hospital. He was a resident of EdinÂburgh. He was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Jefferson County, to the late Orby Carl and Lyda (Cotton) Nay. He married Norma June (Barrett) Nay on Oct. 16, 1964. She preceded in him in death June 4, 2006. Survivors include his daughter, Angela (Morris Jr.) Piper of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Sally (Bill) Brown of Amherst, Va.; a niece, JoAnne (Dennis) Anness of Columbus; a cousin, Maurice Housefield of Columbus; two stepgrandchildren, Robert Leo (Makendra) Burns II of Leesburg, Va., and Kathleen Anne (Charles) Story of Grand Blanc, Mich.; and eight great-stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant sons, Don Carlos Nay and Don Alan Nay; and three sisters, Ruth Weihe, Lucille Mancuso and Genevieve Nay. He graduated from Franklin College with a degree in business administration. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific and was discharged in 1946. He was a member of Edinburgh First Presbyterian Church. He worked for Arvin Industries in Columbus for 49 years, retiring in 1988 as an accountant in the freight department. Don was a lover of crossword puzzles, but his chief and abiding love was music. Until shortly before his death, he was a member of the bands Second Time Around and The Critneys, both of whom were well-known in the community for their many shows at retirement centers and churches. He played rhythm guitar, sang and had an encyclopedic knowledge of tunes from many eras. Some of his happiest moments were practicing songs with fellow guitar player, band mate and lifelong best friend, George Lambert. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, with the Rev. David Armstrong officiating.
