James A. Smith, 77, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus, Indiana. He was a resident of Waldron, IN. He was born on May 21, 1934 in Greensburg, IN to Virgil and Evalena (Locke) Smith. He married Ruby (Smith) Craig on June 16, 1990. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters Ruth Ann Hessler (Richard), Rita Kuntz (Ben), Holly Rankin; step children Dennis Craig, Sandra Dampier (Billy); brother Harold Smith (Alice); 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in passing by his parents; and infant daughter Jackie; He was a graduate of Greensburg High School. Jim operated Smith's Grocery Store in Waldron for 29 years. He was also a meat cutter. He owned and operated many other businesses which included a toy store and candlemaking store. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Adams, IN. Rev. Keith Dover will conduct a service on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 1:30pm at Flinn & Maguire F.H. in Franklin. Friends may call from 11:00am until the service time at 1:30pm. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
