Edith Vivian Marthin, 98, of Columbus, passed from this life at 1:50 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2020 at the Four Seasons Health Care Center.
Mrs. Marthin was born September 1, 1921, in Orleans, Indiana, the daughter of Henry and Cora Clements Wallace.
After High School graduation in 1939, she moved to Columbus and worked for Cummins Engine Company during World War II. She married James David Marthin December 26, 1946. After which they lived in Edinburgh where they raised their children. She worked at the family business, Edinburgh Block Company, and for the Edinburgh School Corp.
Her husband preceded her in death April 22, 1972. She then moved back to Columbus.
Mrs. Marthin returned to work for Cummins Engine Company Business Library, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Christian Church. She was a former member of Disciples of Christ Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Edinburgh. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed cross stitch projects.
Survivors include her children, Mary Marthin (Bob) Hill of Indianapolis and Clay (Rita) Marthin of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott (Laura) Hill, David (Jennifer) Hill, Amanda (Kyle) Stilwell, Christopher Hill, Rich (Jamie Swider) Tyree and Scott (Laura) Hill; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 4 brothers; and 6 sisters.
Private visitation is planned at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street followed by a graveside service at Rest Haven Cemetery with Tyler Tolbert officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church.
