John R. Mayer Sr.

John R. Mayer Sr., 70, of Edinburgh, passed away on February 12, 2022 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.John was born February 6, 1952 in Washington, D.C., the son of Lawrence and Bettie Jane Rollison Mayer. He married Bonnie S. Brooks on December 31, 1975.John loved all he met, and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was fondly called “Pops” or “Pappy” by more people then he ever knew. John enjoyed camping with his wife, and especially loved watching his son and his grandchildren participate in dirt track races.He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie; his son John R. (Suzie) Mayer Jr. of Flat Rock; daughters Stacy (Gabe) Funkhouser of Edinburgh and Elizabeth (Darrell) Burton of Edinburgh; grandchildren Austin, Macey, Bryce, Kolton, and Alyssa; brothers Paul (Maria) Mayer of Palatka, Florida and Terry (Tara) Mayer of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister Rosemary (Jarah) Goodge of Orlando, Florida; as well as his four-legged Yorkie child, Half-Pint.John was preceded in death by his father Lawrence; his mother Bettie Jane Andreu; his step-father Freddie Andreu; as well as a brother Larry Mayer.The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2022 at Who So Ever Will Community Church in Edinburgh with Rev. Randy Denton and Rev. Ricky Burton officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2022 at the church and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
