Maysel Royce (Schwartz) Barker M-E-113-5

Maysel Royce (Schwartz) Barker, age 88, of Franklin, Indiana, went on to be with her Lord and Savior on May 26, 2025. She was born to Roy and May Schwartz on August 4, 1936, in Brownstown, Indiana. Maysel is survived by her husband, William E. Barker, whom she married on August 13, 1955. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Dale) Morrison, of Franklin, Indiana and son, William E. (Kathy) Barker, Jr. of Shelbyville, Indiana and grandchildren Samantha, Jacob (Megan), and Codi Morrison, Martha (Dan) Sanger, Maysel Barker, and Heidi (Erik) Barber and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Elvin Lee Barker; parents, Roy and May (Turney) Schwartz; siblings Bernadine, Ruth, Gertrude, and Pat; and her in-laws, George and Jennie (Olmstead) Barker. An alumnus of Columbus North High School, she proceeded later in life to obtain a B.A. in Elementary Education from Franklin College. She continued on to earn her Master of Education degree with a Gifted and Talented Endorsement from Indiana University. She taught at East Side Elementary for 32 years. After retirement, she served on the school board of the Edinburgh Community School Corporation. She taught crafts to anyone willing to learn and was a 4-H Leader. Maysel attended Gateway Cowboy Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member of the Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene. During her snowbird months, she attended Clewiston Methodist Church in Florida. She served in many positions in her churches, but her greatest passions were for children’s and missions ministries. She always saw the good in people and desired to serve others as Jesus did. Maysel loved to travel. Her favorite excursion was a mission trip to Africa. She was ready to journey one final time to her forever heavenly home. A service will be held at the Edinburgh Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. A burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Donations may be made to www.give.nazarene.org/donate/alabaster in lieu of flowers.
