Betty Jane Hadley Denton, 78, of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Silver Oaks Health Campus surrounded by her family. Born in Columbus, Indiana on January 15, 1947, Betty was the daughter of Hubert and Bessie (Hopkins) Hadley. She married Jerry Lee Denton on December 19, 1964, in Columbus, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1993.Betty worked in the gun department at Walmart for many years before retiring. She then went to work in the gun department at Rural King and retired from there in March 2022. She never met a stranger. Known for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and boundless energy, she had a way of lighting up every room she entered. Whether she was chatting with her customers or tending to her garden, planting vegetables and flowers with care, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a lifelong love of music, especially the classic sounds of Elvis Presley and The Oak Ridge Boys, and she always kept up with the latest news. A devoted genealogist, Betty spent countless hours researching family history and sharing stories that helped preserve the past for future generations. More than anything, she adored her two granddaughters, who brought her endless joy and pride. Betty’s fierce love for her family, her fiery personality, and her ability to make people laugh will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and unwavering humor. The world was brighter because she was in it — and now feels dimmer now that she’s gone.
