Tilda Mary “Polly” Rooks, 77 of Edinburgh, Indiana passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones on November 27, 2025, at her residence. Polly’s desire was to be with the Lord. She was born November 17, 1948, in Adair County, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Lidge and Mary (Bedwell) Coffey. Polly married Yvone Gene Rooks on December 19, 1966, and he survives. Polly is survived by her son Brad (Lora) Rooks of Edinburgh, Indiana, daughter Carla (Tim) Bryant of Edinburgh, Indiana, stepson Rick Smiley of Indianapolis, Indiana, grandchildren Lindsay, Abby, Dylan, Megan, Molly, Katie, and Emma, great grandchildren Gavin, Brynson, Payton, Jonah, Parker, Archer, Roman and Eleanor, brothers James (Peggy) Coffey of Edinburgh, Indiana and Romer (Geraldine) Coffey of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Polly was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Baby Coffey, Hobart Coffey, Junior Coffey, and Robert Coffey, sisters Mae Burton, Betty Rooks and Nannie Swallows and great grandson Teller Bryant. Polly attended Who So Ever Will Community Church in Edinburgh. She graduated in 1966 from Taylor County High School in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Polly worked for Edinburgh Community School System for many years, retiring in 1997 as the secretary for the principal at the high school. After retiring she worked at Edinburgh Wright-Hageman Public Library for a short time. Polly will be dearly missed by her family and friends, as she touched the lives and hearts of so many and loved everybody. Her time spent with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was especially important to her. She would always tell her grandchildren “I love you a bushel, and a peck, and a hug around the neck”. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Randy Denton at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Who So Ever Will Community Church in Edinburgh, Indiana. Calling will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the church and from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, Indiana. The family sends a special thanks to niece Judy Chandler and Main Street Hospice for all their kindness. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be given to Riley Hospital for Children in Polly’s memory. Arrangements by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh, Indiana.
