Marilyn Ruth Waltz, 83, of Columbus, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Our Hospice Indiana Inpatient Facility. Marilyn was born on February 4, 1943, in Seymour, IN to Forrest Glen Anthony and Mary Elizabeth McDonald Anthony. She married James Leroy Waltz on September 18, 1963. Marilyn’s professional journey was deeply rooted in Bartholomew County, where she retired from the county assessor’s office after 25 years of diligent service. Her work ethic and dedication to her role were evident to all who worked alongside her. Marilyn’s retirement at the age of 81 was a testament to her steadfastness and love for her community. Beyond her professional life, Marilyn was known for her vibrant spirit and her love for Indiana University Basketball and Football. Marilyn’s interests extended to the kitchen, where she enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with friends and family. Traveling was another of Marilyn’s passions, and she took every opportunity to explore new places. Elvis Presley’s music was the soundtrack to many of these travels, as Marilyn was an avid fan of the King of Rock and Roll. Above all, Marilyn was known for her kindness and her ability to make everyone she met feel like family. Her warm smile and generous spirit left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to cross her path. Marilyn’s belief that family was paramount guided her through life, and she nurtured her relationships with the same care and attention she gave to her many interests. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2026, at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. Michael Black officiating. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. Monday until service time at the funeral home. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Cemetery beside her husband Leroy. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana or Columbus Animal Care Services. Survivors include her daughters, Tracey (Mark) Owen and Arinda (Monty Cooper) Bussell both of Columbus, IN; brother, James Leroy (Diane) Anthony; sister, Carol Anthony; grandchildren, Derek Owen, Adam Kessler and Tyler Kessler; She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Leroy Waltz on January 2, 1972; brothers, George Anthony and infant brother, Billy Ray Anthony; sisters, Katie Garvey, Nanci Anthony-Barnes and infant sister, Boneda Anthony.
