Shirley Faye Browning, 71, of Edinburgh, died at 2:22 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was born in Cave City, Kentucky, March 31, 1939, the daughter of Stanley R. Melton and Marie Pedigo Laney. She had worked as a police dispatcher in various police departments in Johnson County. She enjoyed time with her family, travel, crossword puzzles, Garth Brooks, playing cards, Intendo, trivial pursuit and garage sales. She is survived by a son, Timothy Dale (Vicki) Browning of Franklin; a daughter, Kelly Browning of Franklin; grandchildren, Austin Browning, Teah Dawn Browning, Harli Browning and Tosha Baskin; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Stanwyck (Libby) Melton of Hartsville, S.C. and Stanley (Sheila) Melton Jr., Doug (Sung-hee) Melton and Daren (Patty) Melton, all of Columbus; sisters, Joyce (Jerry) Giles of Edinburgh, Delores (Steve) Fletcher of Flat Rock and Pam (Tim) Caldwell, Sharon Melton and Bonnie Lee, all of Columbus. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Melton; and sisters, Brenda Pearson, Debra Melton and Dorothea Crain. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Who So Ever Will Community Church with Rev. Lewis Burton officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery. Calling will be from noon until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Season's Hospice, 8350 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis, IN, 46237.
