Dale Eugene Burns M-E-135-3

Dale E. Burns, 78, of Edinburgh, died Monday, July 18, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. A 1951 graduate of Edinburgh High School, Mr. Burns served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years, working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. He was a retired truck driver, an avid bowler and golfer and loved baseball, especially the Cincinnati Reds. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh with Judge Lance Hamner officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, with military graveside rites conducted by Edinburgh American Legion Post No. 233. Mr. Burns was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Selma, Ala., the son of Otto and Vada Selma Grayson Burns. He married Patricia A. Hamner Aug. 25, 1951. She preceded him in death Jan. 23, 1984. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Burns of Edinburgh, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hoyt Burns; and sisters, Wilma Schaub and Mary Phyllis Paul.
