David E. Burton, 58, of Columbus, died at 4:23 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Mr. Burton was a self-employed painter and a member of the Eagle's Lodge in Columbus. He was of the Baptist faith. A kind and giving person, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a fan of all sports, particularly the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR, especially Mark Martin. He had been a coach for Edinburgh Bantam Football, leading his teams to championship seasons in 1978 and 1979. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., with the Rev. Guy Hardin and the Rev. Terry England officiating. Calling will be at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh, IN 46124. Born in Columbia, Ky., April 14, 1953, Mr. Burton was the son of John Henry and Agnes Stapleton Burton. He married Mary Towery June 28, 2003. Survivors include his wife; brothers, Bill Boy (Karen) Burton and Eddie Dale (Susie) Burton, both of Edinburgh; a sister, Judy Gail Lowman of Edinburgh; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie R. Burton.
