Jim R. Burton, 70, of Elizabethtown, died at 2:398 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Burton was a machine operator at Cummins Engine Company for 25 years. He was a founding member of Sandcreek Township Conservation Club. He loved fishing and attending flea markets and auctions with his best buddy, Isaac Hamner. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Lewis Burton officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana. Born Sept. 2, 1941 in Columbus, Mr. Burton was the son of Hass Ed and Goldie L. Heitz Burton. He married Viola "Boots" Crosby. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Jackie Hamner of Elizabethtown and Christina (Chris) Fitch of Edinburgh; sons, Jim Burton, Jr. of Scipio, Kevin Burton of North Vernon, Don Burton of Elizabethtown and Doug (Robin) Hamner of Scipio; sisters, Shasta (Larry) Smiley of Flatrock, Kathy (Kevin) Stubblefield of Edinburgh, Tammy (Gary) Evans of Speedwell, TN and Janey Haddock of Franklin, TN; brothers, Tommy Burton of Silver Street SC and William T. (Christine) Burton of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Candy Hulk. www.myers-reed.com
