Laura Imogene "Blackie" Johnson, 74, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at her residence in Columbus. She was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Casey County, Ky., to Ike Owen and Bessie Madison (Hardwick) Burton. She married Shirley Johnson on Oct. 28, 1963; he survives. Other survivors include two children, Mark (Leah) Johnson and Stephen Johnson, both of Columbus; five grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson McDowell, Jamie Johnson, Chastity Gossett, Laura Johnson and Stephanie Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Grace McDowell, Cameron Gossett and Adalyn Gossettt; and three sisters, Lola Allen of Edinburgh and Linda (Larry) Hogue and Nadine Johnson, both of Casey County, Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Cleo Burton; and a sister, Marie "Cricket" Johnson. She attended Highway 49 Pentecostal Church in Casey County, Ky. She was a former employee of Hill Brothers Veneer in Edinburgh. She enjoyed listening to her husband play the guitar and sing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Sissy. She also enjoyed gardening and her flowers. The Rev. Ray Bryant will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday at Who So Ever Will Community Church, 623 S. Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from noon until service time Friday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Arrangements are being handled by Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh.
