Vernon E. Johnson B-N-1-3

Ret. Master Sgt. Vernon E. Johnson, 83, of Edinburgh, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Hendricks County, to Alden L. Johnson and Stella Inez (Curtis) Johnson. He married Evelyn (Stafford) Johnson on Aug. 29, 1948; she survives. Other survivors include his children, Terri (Claude) Eagler of Indianapolis and Teddi Powlen of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Rosemary (Curtis) O'Brien of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Andrew (Amber) Eagler and Angela (Scott) Barriger, both of Indianapolis, and Erica (Tom) Cullison of Lebanon; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Edin­burgh High School, class of 1947. He served in the Indiana National Guard. He also was a former deacon of Edinburgh First Christian Church. He retired after 37 years of service in the Indiana National Guard, Stout Field, Indianapolis. He enjoyed Indiana University basketball, farming, fishing and gardening. Bill Stafford will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
