Sgt. Maj. (retired) Meredith D. "Bud" Lain M-B-33-3

Sgt. Maj. (retired) Meredith D. "Bud" Lain, 80, of Edinburgh, died at 10:43 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Franciscan St. Francis Health-Indianapolis. He was born Jan. 16, 1931, in Bartholomew County, to James Robert Lain and Laura Lucille (Neville) Lain. He married Elizabeth Kaye (Cox) on Feb. 3, 1978. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Michael D. Lain (Sherry Mitchell) of Trafalgar and Douglas (Terry) Lain of Greenwood; a daughter, Kimberlee (Arden) Cramer of Logansport; two stepsons, Jeff Mobley of Columbus and Michael (Kim) Mobley of Edinburgh; a stepdaughter, Jerri Kaye (Tom) Passo of Bardstown, Ky.; a brother, Joe A. (Marilyn) Lain of Edinburgh; a sister, Colleen M. Handly of Edinburgh; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Bill Mobley. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus and Edinburgh American Legion Post 233. He retired in 1986 after 36½ years of service with the Indiana Army National Guard as a master mechanic. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with friends at Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh. The Rev. Marc Vance will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. today at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Military graveside rites will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh by the Indiana National Guard ceremonial unit.
