Phyllis M. Dewey Neville, 85, formerly of Nashville and Columbus, Indiana, passed peacefully in her home in Van Nuys, Calif., September 27, 2011, under the care of her husband, Melvin Neville (formerly of Edinburgh) and Hospice care. Phyllis Maxine Pavey was born December 9, 1926, to Hester (Cordray) and Harold Pavey, in Edinburgh. She grew up in Edinburgh with her grandparents, Mary and Harry Cordray. Phyllis was active with the local USO during WWII. She attended DePauw University after graduating with honors from Edinburgh High School, and worked both at Bemis Company and Indiana Bell. She was also a member of the Nashville chapter of Psi Iota Sorority and worked with Girl Scouts, both in Columbus and Nashville. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Melvin Neville, Van Nuys, Calif.; her two daughters from her first marriage to David Dewey (Peggy) of Nashville, Victoria Lynn (Dewey) Goeke (Emil) of Indianapolis and Sherry Ann (Dewey) Gore of Brown County; and her five grandchildren, Abigayle Kristine Gore of Bloomington, Gabriel James David Groves, Joshua Daniel Dewey Groves (Chris), and Rachel Elizabeth Kelley of Indianapolis, and Shaun Matthew Kelley (Beth) of St. Louis, Missouri. Phyllis enjoyed reading, playing concert style piano and was an avid painter and writer. Her final poem was published in the Brown County Democrat August 17, 2011. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Brown County Humane Society, an organization special to Mrs. Neville. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 12, at the Brown County Presbyterian Fellowship, 602 N. SR 135 in Nashville. The service will be held at 2 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Scott D. Seay will preside. A private burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
