Helen L. Painter, 85, of Freetown, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at her home. A homemaker, Mrs. Painter formerly worked at Amos Plastics and Cosco.
She attended Mt. Nebo Untied Methodist Church and was a member of Columbus American Legion Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Columbus Moose Lodge. She enjoyed exercising and walking. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor John Hrynk officiating. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery. Born in Prestonsburg, Ky., November 3, 1925, Helen was the daughter of Kinnel and Hattie Craft Powers. She married Woodrow N. Painter April 17, 1954. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2001. Survivors include children, Teresa G. (Donald) Dowden and David N. Painter, both of Freetown; grandchildren, Chris N. (Tasha) Dowden of Crothersville and David N. (Samantha) Painter Jr. of Sellersburg; great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Braydon and Rylan Dowden and Addy Grider; a sister, Loretta Blackburn of Warsaw and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Painter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Charles Powers and sisters, Josephine Wooten, Beatrice Shell, Nancy Rising and Joyce Hatfield.
