Norman E. "Mississippi" Rhodes, 75, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin. He was a resident of Edinburgh. He was born Nov. 15, 1935, to the late Jack and M. Easter (Fletcher) Gant. He married Della J. (Burton) Rhodes on June 12, 1984. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Donna (Bob) Moore of Edinburgh; siblings, James Leroy Rhodes of Edinburgh and Ernest (Ruth) Gant of Taylorsville; grandchildren, Brad Phelps of Columbus and Nikki (John Brodbeck) Davis of Decatur; and great-grandchildren, Kolby and Raya Davis and Arianna and Abby Phelps. He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Katlin Phelps and a brother, Bobby Rhodes. He was a member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church for 22 years. He was a member of the carpenter's union. He retired from Arvin Meritor in Franklin after 33 years of service. Mr. Rhodes enjoyed visiting with friends, gospel music, bingo and gardening, especially flowers. The Rev. Guy Hardin will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh is handling arrangements.
