James Smith, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. He was a resident of Edinburgh. He was born May 6, 1928, in Adair County, Ky., to the late Nollman and Eula (Pike) Smith. He married Lucy (Burton) Smith on Nov. 19, 1955; she preceded him in death April 30, 2002. Survivors include his son, Steve Smith of Indianapolis; grandÂdaughters, Susie and Mary Smith of Carmel; brothers, Wilmer Smith of Morgantown, Norman Smith of Russell Springs, Ky., and Glenfield Smith of Campbellsville, Ky.; sisters, Dimple Breeden of Russel Springs, Ky., and Fannie Jacobs of Somerset, Ky.; one stepgrandson; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon, Clarence and Calvin Smith; and sisters, Ethel Phelps and Mary Cowan. He retired from Amos-Hill Associates in Edinburgh. The Rev. Guy Hardin will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
