Fred Charles Thompson, 87, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at his residence in Edinburgh. He was born Sept. 29, 1923, to the late Charles E. Thompson and Lizzie V. (Ross) Thompson. He married Edna May (Willard) Thompson on June 15, 1941. She preceded him death Oct. 2, 2000. He served in the U.S. Army in Normandy and received a Purple Heart. He was a founding member of Mid-Hoosier Model A Club and a member of American Legion Post 233 in Edinburgh. He retired in 1987 from David R. Webb Co. after 42 years as warehouse foreman. He enjoyed restoring Model A Fords and other classic cars. Survivors include three sons, Fred James Thompson of Indianapolis and Mikael D. Thompson and Daniel Mark Thompson, both of Edinburgh; a daughter, Sharon (Mark) Vess Land of Marathon, Fla.; four grandchildren, Kimberly Vess (Duane) Halbur, Jason Vess, Dustin Swallows and Kali Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Dominic Halbur and Carolyn Maye Halbur; sisters-in-law, Etta Fay Miller and Tallie Thompson, both of Edinburgh, and Wendola Thompson of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, Everett, Lawrence, Dale, Albert Lee and Alan Dean Thompson; and three sisters, Mary Williams, Jean Williams and Frances Snyder. The Rev. Ron Ellis will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
