Maxine "Gus" Willard, 81, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was a resident of Edinburgh. She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in Bartholomew County, to the late Roy and Laura E. (Evans) Thompson. She married Raymond "Frog" Willard on March 20, 1947; he preceded her in death July 17, 2004. Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Ron) Hamm and Cindy (Dwane) Williams, both of Edinburgh; three grandchildren, Chad Hamm (Dawn Burton) of Trafalgar, Jill (Josh) Garris of Columbus and Margo (Frank) Andrews of Edinburgh; a great-grandson, Landon Garris; and a sister, Madeline Acher of Greenwood. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Walter, Harold, Floyd, Ralph and Donald Thompson; and three sisters, Mildred "Duke" Mattox, Thelma Hasch and Wanda Norton. She retired as food service manager at East Side Elementary School in Edinburgh. She formerly worked at Schaffer Drug Store. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
