John Henry Burton, 91, went to join the love of his life on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. He was a resident of Edinburgh. He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Columbia, Ky., to the late Gideon and Belle (Bryant) Burton. He married Agnes M. (Stapleton) Burton. She died Sept. 14, 2012. Survivors include three children, Bill Boy (Karen) Burton, Eddie Dale (Susie) Burton and Judy Gale Lowman, all of Edinburgh; a daughter-in-law, Mary Burton of Owensboro Ky.; eight grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David E. Burton; a daughter, Hattie R. Burton; granddaughter, Wendy Burton; brothers, Nelse, Willis "Jack," Oris, Beatley and Little Jim Burton; and two sisters, Fannie Burton and Betsy Ann Giles. He was the oldest member of the Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church. He retired from Amos Thompson Veneer and then owned and operated Burton's Sunoco in Edinburgh. He has a grandson and great-grandson who served in Afghanistan. He enjoyed spending time with the Lord and his family. He also enjoyed gardening and driving his Model T Ford. The Revs. Guy Hardin and Ralph Foster will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana.
