Howard Slevin Jr. M-B-28-8.1
Howard Slevin Jr. age 79, passed away on January 10th 2011. He had been under the care of hospice for the last three weeks. Howard was born on August 15th , 1931 in Edinburgh, Indiana. He was the eldest son of Howard “Shorty” and Marie Slevin. After a stint in the army where he was a paratrooper he became an over the road driver. On one of Howard’s trips through Kansas City he met Elsie Rivas. They were married in 1968 and settled down here in Kansas City. Howard drove locally for a while, until taking a job in the veneer industry. While in the veneer industry he worked in various locations in the United States and Guatemala. Howard and his wife retired in Columbus, Indiana to be close to his parents. Howard had a small booth at a local flee market where he enjoyed spending his time, almost as much as he enjoyed fishing and racing. In 2001 Howard and Elsie decided to move back to Kansas City to be closer to their children. Howard leaves behind his step-children Bobby Kemp, Richard Rivas, Sandra O’Brien, Vicki Rivas, Delores Barajas, Gwen “Peanut” Lentz, His seventeen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren, and his brothers Francis and Bill Slevin. Howard was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, his parents Howard and Marie Slevin, his brother Johnny, and stepk-son Tedo Rivas.
