David Lester Long B-N-264-Mau

David Lester Long, 76, passed away surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Nineveh on June 6, 2019. David was born on January 31, 1943 in Indianapolis to Chester and Mary Allene (Whitcomb) Long. He married Rita A. (Grant) Long on January 4, 1969. She lovingly survives. David is also survived by his children, David A. Long (Amy) of Franklin, Julie A. Barker (Jamey) of Franklin, Lori M. Lollar (Justin) of Edinburgh, and Nathan M. Long (Ashley) of Edinburgh; grandchildren, Matthew Long (Lauren) of Del Rio, Ryan Long, Seth Long, Ethan Long, Evan Barker, Gabrielle Barker, Noah Barker, Daniel Barker all of Franklin, Addison Lollar, Annelise Lollar, Ayla Lollar, Averie Long and Everett Long all of Edinburgh; great-grandchildren, Addyson Long, Arabella Long, and Auden Long all of Del Rio Texas; and sister, Martha Pottorff (Bill). He is preceded in passing by his parents and a grandson, Maverick Long in 2013. David graduated from Morgantown High School in 1961. He graduated from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1971. David owned and operated Long Funeral Home in Edinburgh for 30 years. David retired from the Military in 2003 after 23 years of dedicated service. He served with The Military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit in the 1990’s. He also served as crew chief on The Blackhawk and Huey Helicopters at Shelbyville. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 233. Father Steve Schaftlein will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive in Franklin. Friends and family may call on Monday, June 10th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton Street (U.S. 31) in Franklin. Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Military honors will be conducted by The Military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit.
