Douglas Begley Badger-C-35-1

EDINBURGH

On May 16, Douglas Begley, 91, passed away peacefully, in Franklin, IN. Born in Leslie County Kentucky, he resided most his life in Edinburgh, IN.

In Kentucky, he supported his wife and five children, working in the mines of the Blue Diamond Coal Company. He moved his family to Indiana in the early 60’s, finding manufacturing work at Arvins. In doing so, he established a better life and greater opportunities for his family.

Doug was a man of strong faith. He served his church, as both a deacon and guitar player in the worship team.

Doug was passionate about music. He played his guitar, every spare moment, and taught himself to master beautiful pieces of classical guitar. He played along with Chet Atkins records and eventually got the chance to play with Chet himself.

In retirement, he shared his love of music with others, teaching guitar at the Gary Davis Music store.

Doug valued knowledge and education. He had many interests and was always seeking new information. He could speak intelligently on many subjects, but favored, history, government, and politics.

He enjoyed time with his family. He greeted with a sturdy hug, and was happy to spend hours, telling stories, sharing his knowledge, and cracking jokes.

He was a strong, stoic, but loving man, that his family could always rely on. His absence now is profoundly felt, but his memory will live on in those who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating.

He is survived by Children; Darrell (Connie) Begley, Danny (Bridgette) Begley, Donna McFarland, and Norma Burton. He is also survived by daughter in law, Carolyn Begley; siblings, Martha Crase, Carol Helton, Joan Morgan, Harold Begley, Daymond Begley and Don Begley; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
